SAT II SUBJECT TESTS

These are different tests than the regular SAT - subject specific. You cannot use these in place of regular SATs.

Many elite schools or tough majors at elite schools require them.

They are offered on the same day as regular SATs, but you take them in a different room. You cannot take the regular SAT on the same day as a subject test. You can take up to 3 subject tests in the same day, but I suggest two.

NOTES ON ALL TESTING

Register early - plan ahead. Testing centers fill up. However, there are change and cancel fees.

You must send all testing scores to the colleges you will apply to, so start sending now!

If you receive free or reduced lunch, you do not have to pay for these tests. See your current counselor for a waiver. You currently get 2 regular SATS and 2 ACTS between 11th and 12th grade (and you can get 2 SAT Subject tests free too if you need it)

Q: HOW MANY TESTS SHOULD I TAKE BY FALL OF SENIOR YEAR?

A: This answer depends on your future plans.
Considering an elite 4 year school: I suggest 3, and check if you need to take SAT II Subject tests with your school/major
Considering a 4 year school: I suggest 2 plus I would consider ACT if you are in Trig/Pre Calc and do well in math and science
Considering a 2 year school, tech school or military: I suggest 1 SAT

Q: WHICH TEST DATES SHOULD I PLAN FOR?
A: Check your schedule - these tests are on Saturdays and they are national dates, so they will not change. Check sports/work schedules and make sure you can get a ride. Try to give yourself at least 2 months between taking the same test, so you have time to review your scores and try to improve them. I do not recommend taking SATs in May and June, but if that is the only time you can take them based on your schedule, then do it.

Q: HOW MANY TESTS SHOULD I TAKE SENIOR YEAR?
A: Use senior year to try to improve scores if needed, don't plan to take them for the first time senior year. If you procrastinate until senior year, you will have less opportunity to improve your scores. You need to be done testing by December 2016.
