To the Communities of Franklin Township, Elk Township, and Newfield,

We at the Delsea Regional School District have always been committed to providing a safe learning environment for our students and staff. Recent mold issues in neighboring districts have prompted us to review our procedures and policies with regard to indoor air quality. I can say with confidence that we are completely compliant with all laws and regulations and that, in fact, our maintenance staff often goes above and beyond what is required. Our facilities are clean, healthy, and safe for all occupants.

Air quality was tested by Epic Environmental LLC before and after the construction; the results showed no mold or any issue with the air quality in either building. During the summer construction, especially at the high school, there was daily visual inspection for mold but nothing was ever found. At one point, a very small amount of asbestos was found in some insulation of a water heater inside the building, but that was quickly contained and remediated.

Annual testing, which occurred early in October 2017 for the high school, once again indicated good air quality and no trace of mold. The middle school annual is scheduled for testing early next week but because we have had absolutely no indication of any issues, we expect the results to mimic the high school’s results. When, periodically, a staff member has concerns or questions about the air quality in their rooms, we immediately conduct a test in the specific area in question; none of these has ever returned with results which were positive for mold.

The seriousness of the issues in Monroe Township have prompted us to increase the frequency of the annual air quality tests to twice a year to ensure that nothing is missed. We will also continue with the weekly visual checks of the buildings and our regular maintenance procedures. I have instructed our facility manager to gather past test results and post them on the district web site so that all parents, students, and staff can be assured that the schools are properly maintained and monitored. They should be posted by the end of the week.

I thank you for your continued support of the District and, as always, I am available at 856-694-0100 extension 216 for any questions you may have.

With Delsea Pride,
Piera Gravenor
Superintendent
